SR 0219, Section 035

Michael Kilgore

Cost: $7,592,219
Client: PennDot District 9-0
Contact: Michael E. Stone, P.E.
Project Letting: 03/17/2022

SR 0219, Section 035 (Mason Dixon Highway) is located in Elk Lick Township, Somerset County. The project is located approximately 0.8 miles north of the Pennsylvania border with Maryland and 4.2 miles south of Meyersdale, PA. The project consisted of work in three segments on SR 0219. In Segment 0020, project work included realignment of SR 0219 and remediation of a rockfall zone. New concrete barrier was installed at the edge of the southbound shoulder to facilitate an elevated fall zone and protect traffic from striking the rock face. Concrete underpinning was provided in the area of the rock overhangs, which helped to stabilize slopes and mitigate movement of rock. In Segment 0070, project work consisted of realignment of SR 0219 and excavation of a rock slope along the northbound side of SR 0219 in order to provide adequate sight distance along the roadway. A wet detention basin, which is fed by a new ditch along the excavation area, was constructed to accommodate excess runoff created by the removal of the slope. In Segment 0080, project work included excavation of a rock slope near Township Road 325 (Engles Mill Road) to provide adequate sight distance, as well as relocation of a driveway within the limits of earthwork.

PA 21 Improvements Plan - Selection!

Michael Kilgore

We are extremely pleased to announce that the SPK Team was selected November 9th for the PA 21 Improvements Plan
for PennDOT Engineering District 12-0!

A project specific open-ended agreement will be executed to perform studies, preliminary engineering, final design, services during construction and right of way acquisition services for the PA 21 Improvements Project. Approximate limits for the project would be limited to the portion of PA 21 between US 19 in Waynesburg to US 40 in Uniontown. An in-depth and complex study will be completed for development and analysis of possible concepts to meet Pennsylvania Route 21 (PA 21) corridor purpose and needs; and to develop design strategies to improve safety and mobility on the transportation network.

We are excited to begin this new assignment for PennDOT District 12-0!!
