Ambridge-Aliquippa Bridge Needs Analysis - Allegheny and Beaver Counties - This project included the investigation, documentation, and approval of the transportation needs for the Ambridge/ Aliquippa Bridge Needs Study. The Needs Study identified the transportation deficiencies of the existing roadway network between the communities of the project area and defined what components or operational characteristics of the existing transportation system were deficient and required improvement. The needs were established based upon traffic volumes, existing capacity versus travel demand, safety, and network demand for transriver travel. The work involved identification of transportation facilities, characteristics and deficiencies collection and analysis of existing traffic data and design year forecasts. This data was used to determine highway segment and intersection capacity and to project the degree of existing and future traffic congestion based on level of service analysis. Select link analysis was used to forecast transriver travel demand in the study area. This travel demand was analyzed with respect to capacity, safety and geometric deficiencies, traffic congestion, and accessibility to define existing and future transportation problems and needs.
